Discipline and Specialties

The SoM offers two types of Master’s program, i.e., Master of Management and Master of Economics. There are four master stations in the first-level disciplines (covering SoM’s branches of learning) and four professional master degree programs. The first level discipline of Management Science and Engineering was approved as the National Key Discipline in 2001, which successfully passed the evaluation of national key discipline in 2006.

National Key Discipline Management Science and Engineering

The graduate program started in 1954 and SoM acquired the authority to confer master degrees in Management Engineering in 1978. This discipline currently has an academic team with the young and middle-aged faulty as the backbone, and steady research directions as well as good research environment, making it possess outstanding competitiveness and rank in the domestic leading level. It acquired the authority to confer master degrees in Technical Economics in 1990, in enterprise management in 1998. With preferential support from the National 985 Programme, this discipline has set up various research institutes and centers, and maintains long term collaborative relationships with famous Chinese and foreign universities. Provincial Key Discipline Public Administration

Authorized to confer master degrees in education economy and management in 1990, the SoM prepared to build the first-level discipline of Public Administration in 2000. It acquired the authority to confer master degrees in Public Management and Land Resources Management in 2002. HIT was among the first batch of pilot universities to offer MPA Program in China.

In 1998, with the national adjustment of faculties and disciplines, Public Administration became a first-level discipline in management faculty. This discipline is positioned to go international and has established extensive collaborative relationships with the world’s first class universities, such as Delft University of Technology in Netherland, George Mason University, MIT and Carnegie Mellon University in the USA and Cambridge University in the UK. The international collaboration has greatly facilitated the discipline to develop at a faster speed and to become an important training and research base of public management talents. First-level Discipline Applied Economics

The SoM began to enroll master students in International Business under the master station of Technical Economics and Management. It acquired the authority to confer master degrees in International Business in 2000 and in Finance in 2002. The first-level discipline master station in Applied Economics was approved in 2005.

Oriented by the trend of economic frontier theories and development, the faculty members of this discipline have been doing research according the need of global economic integration and economic development of China. By making use of the comparative advantage of the SoM’s multi-disciplines, this discipline has accumulated stable research areas and obtained some influential research findings.
