Harbin Institute of Technology Successfully Hosts the 29th International Conference on Management Science and Engineering

From October 18 to 19, 2025, the 29th International Conference on Management Science and Engineering (ICMSE2025) was successfully held at the International Conference Center of the Science Park of Harbin Institute of Technology(HIT).Hosted by the School of Management at HIT, the conference brought together renowned experts and young scholars in the field of management science from 12 countries and regions. They gathered to engage in in-depth discussions on the theme of“Frontiers and Innovative Applications of Management Science in the Digital-Intelligent Transformation Era.”

. Conference Overview: Devoting Over Two Decades to Building a Global Hub for Academic Exchange

Since its establishment in 1993, theICMSEhas been successfully held for more than 20 consecutive sessions, attracting thousands of experts and scholars worldwide. Upholding its positioning of “Focusing on Frontiers and Promoting Innovation”, this year’s conference concentrated on the applications of cutting-edge digital technologies-such as artificial intelligence, big data, blockchain, and cloud computing-across diverse sectors including manufacturing, fintech, business intelligence, transportation and logistics, and e-health. It served as a high-level academic exchange platform for management science researchers globally.

The conference was chaired by Professor Doug Vogel, with Professor Wang Jian and Professor Guo Xitong serving as Executive Chairs, and Professor Liu Yang and Professor Zhang Xiaofei as Program Chairs. According to the organizing committee, ICMSE 2025 received 102 submissions from 12 countries and regions, covering core areas like artificial intelligence, digital transformation, digital innovation, the platform economy, intelligent decision-making, logistics and transportation, supply chain management, and digital healthcare.

1.Opening Ceremony: Remarks by University and School Leaders, Defining Academic Missions

On the morning of October 19, the opening ceremony was held in Lecture Hall 201, Building 2H of the International Conference Center at Harbin Institute of Technology’s Science Park.

Shuai Yong, Member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee and Vice President of Harbin Institute of Technology, delivered a speech. He extended sincere welcome to guests from home and abroad attending this international academic conference. He stated that the university has always attached great importance to internationalized education, actively expanded its global cooperation network, and adhered to the guidance of the spirit in General Secretary Xi Jinping’s congratulatory letter on the 100th anniversary of Harbin Institute of Technology’s founding, striving to forge an excellent path in the new century that features Chinese characteristics, world-class standards, and the“HIT Style”. With its decades of commitment to academia, ICMSE has become an important link for international exchanges in the field of management science. He expressed expectation that this conference will further pool global wisdom, contribute academic strength to addressing challenges in the global economic management field, and continue to boost the internationalization level of the School of Management.

2.Plenary Reports: Authoritative Experts Share Insights, Focusing on Cutting-Edge Research

On the morning of October 19, five authoritative experts in the field delivered plenary reports focusing on hot topics in digital and intelligent transformation. The sessions were chaired by Professor Guo Xitong, Professor Zhang Nan, Professor Liu Yang, and Professor Zhang Xiaofei in sequence.

Professor Hu Xiangpei from Dalian University of Technology gave a keynote speech entitled "Research on the Collaborative Distribution Model for the 'First/Last Mile' of E-commerce Logistics in Border Rural Areas".Addressing the "first/last mile" dilemma in e-commerce logistics of border rural areas, Professor Hu proposed a distribution model based on smart delivery lockers and multi-agent collaboration, contributing constructive academic insights to logistics management in remote regions.

Professor Tang Jiafu from Dongbei University of Finance and Economics gave a keynote speech titledSimulation Analysis of Global Semiconductor Supply Chain Network Resilience Considering Capital Risks.Professor Tang evaluated the impact of capital risks (such as price squeeze and account period squeeze) on the global semiconductor supply chain network through simulation modeling, analyzed the multiple ripple effects of risk transmission, and proposed constructive management strategies to enhance resilience.

Professor Zhang Xiaoning from Tongji University delivered a keynote speech titledShared Transportation Based on Spatiotemporal Optimization.Professor Zhang’s research focused on the collaborative transportation optimization between logistics companies and intercity bus companies. By applying the Stackelberg game and multi-period decision-making model, he explored how to achieve resource sharing and profit maximization amid demand fluctuations.

3.Parallel Sub-forums: In-depth Discussions on Ten Themes, Young Scholars Showcasing Their Strengths

On the afternoon of October 19, the conference held nine parallel sub-forums simultaneously, focusing on special-topic discussions around themes including “Information System Transformation and Innovation in the AI Era”, “Intelligent Decision-Making and Operations Management”, “Information Technology and Management”, “Platform and Supply Chain Management”, “Transportation and Logistics System Optimization and Management”, “Artificial Intelligence and Applications”, “Information System User Behavior in the Digital-Intelligent Era”, “User Behavior and Organizational Management in Digital Scenarios”, and “Digital Technology and Enterprise Management Innovation”.

The sub-forums invited a number of young scholars in the field to deliver invited academic reports, including Associate Professor Feng Zhuo from Dalian University of Technology, Associate Researcher Liu Haoxin from University of Science and Technology of China, Associate Researcher Chen Gang from Fudan University, Dr. Zhang Hongzhe from The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Dr. Zhu Yingpeng from University of Macau, and young scholars from overseas.

Each sub-forum focused on core topics in its corresponding field, covering not only cutting-edge directions such as AI-driven information system transformation, intelligent decision-making optimization, and supply chain resilience construction, but also practical issues including user behavior analysis in digital scenarios, spatiotemporal scheduling of logistics systems, and digital innovation in enterprise management. Participating scholars shared views and exchanged ideas based on their latest research results, fostering in-depth ideological exchanges in sub-fields and providing diverse perspectives for the practical application of management science.

4.Closing Ceremony: Recognizing Outstanding Achievements and Looking Forward to Academic Future

On the afternoon of October 19, an outstanding paper award ceremony was held at the conference’s closing ceremony. The Conference Organizing Committee selected a number of first, second, and third prizes from the accepted papers, and announced that excellent Chinese papers would be recommended for the fast-track review qualification of theJournal of Management Science (China), providing a higher platform for outstanding academic achievements to be showcased.
