Major Introduction

The major of finance in HIT was founded in 1993. This major is committed to cultivate interdisciplinary talents with sensitive market economy awareness and adaptability, extensive knowledge of finance theories and relevant disciplines, and the professional skills required to engage in financial work. Students are supposed to have solid foundation of financial theories, good competence of communication, proficiency in foreign language skills, familiarity with policies, regulations, rules and conventions in the area of finance, and the ability to apply theory to practice. Main courses include: macroeconomics, microeconomics, econometrics, financial marketing, money and banking, public finance, tax, central banks theory and practice, business banks theory and practice, international finance, asset appraisal, science of investment, finance engineering, investment bank theory and practice, securities trading, futures trading, and insurance, etc.

In 2003, it was approved to set up the second-level discipline master program; in 2005, it was approved to set up the first-level master program in applied economics ; in 2011, it acquired the authority to enroll students in professional master of finance as one of the first batch of business schools with this authority.

Teaching and Research

The major of finance now employs 14 faculty members, amongst whom 3 are full professors, 9 are associate professors and 2 are lecturers; 4 are doctoral supervisors, 9 are master supervisors.

Two intellects were introduced from overseas well-known universities. With long term accumulation, this major has formulated steady academic research directions, with obvious characteristics and certain advantages. Faculty members’ main research areas include: Finance Security and Financial Regulation, Asymmetry Information and Financial Market Efficiency, Measurement and Control of Financial Risks, research of taxation policies, etc.

In the recent five years, this major has achieved fruitful results in research, completing and undertaking over 30 projects of various kinds, including undertaking 14 national natural science funds general projects and youth projects, 3 national soft science projects, 4 Ministry of Education humanities and social science projects, 3 national key projects and 4 national defense soft science fund projects, with the total scientific research funds exceeding 5,000,000 yuan. 9 projects have won national or ministerial/ provincial awards. Approximately 170 papers were published with about 13 in SCI and SSCI-indexed journals, and over 30 in EI-indexed journals, 35 in ISTP or CSSCI-indexed journals. The faculty actively participate in provincial, municipal and ministerial survey and training work, composing a large number of advising reports, highly regarded by the provincial leaders and various departments, with great value to decision reference.

International Cooperation and Communication

The major of finance highlights the international cooperation and communication with the well-known universities and institutions abroad. Close academic exchange and cooperation have been made with the universities such as Russian Novosibirsk state technical university, North Carolina state university in the United States, University of Texas, the University of Incheon in South Korea, etc.
